You in a story

The book where it’s really them

We are a small publishing house that makes one thing: a picture book in which a particular child is the hero.

Why we started with the face

Personalised books have been around for years, and most of them personalise a name. The child on page one is a stock illustration with their name printed underneath. The newer ones attempt more and hold up worse — the child looks like themselves on the first page and like a stranger by the ninth.

So we made that the hard part

We draw the child once, and we get you to agree it looks like them before anything else happens. Every page is then drawn from that one agreed picture, which is why a child stays themselves from the cover to the last page. It is a slower way to make a book, and it is the part that actually matters.

The story is written by people

Each of our six titles is a manuscript, written to be read out loud at the end of a day, with a shape and an ending. Your child’s name, the people around them and the things they love are woven through it. What we don’t do is invent a plot on the spot and hope it lands.

You see everything before you pay

Every page, free, with the words editable and any picture redrawable. Nothing goes to the printer until you have read the whole thing and said it is right. We would rather you changed ten pages than received one you didn’t like.

About the photos

A book like this starts by asking for a picture of your child, and we take that seriously. Originals are deleted 30 days after your order ships, and you can delete everything in one click before that. Nothing is trained on them, and only the people proofing your book can see them.
