  • What if the drawing doesn’t look like my child?

You’ll see their illustrated character before the story is made. You can try another drawing or upload a different photo before approving it. You also see every page before you pay.

  • How is the book personalized?

You upload a clear photo of the hero and choose a story. We draw them once in that book’s house style and ask whether it looks like them. If it doesn’t, we can draw it again twice, or you can send a different photo. Only after you say yes do we illustrate the pages, into a story written by people. You read the whole book free and approve it before anything is printed.

Their name, their age band, three things they love, and who else is in the book. You can edit the words on any page while you’re making the book, and change the cover text and the dedication right up until you order it.

  • Can I check and change the book before I buy?

Yes. See every page, edit the story’s words, and change the cover text and dedication before you pay. Once you place your order, the book is final and we can’t make changes.

A look inside

A little of the adventure you’ll share.

  • Today was the Backyard Rally, the muddiest race on the street. Every kid had a truck, polished and shiny and ready to roar. Every kid except Leo, who had one idea, three hours and a garage full of junk.

  • Leo knows a great deal about football, and one thing you learn from football is patience. Back, and forth. Back, and forth. Ella pushed, and got most of the mud. Then, with an enormous squelch, the truck popped out.

  • The truck flew. It flew over the ramp, over the straw bales, over three astonished pigeons and over the finish line. It landed with a crunch, a bounce and a very long HONK. Leo had won.

A book you make together. A story they can keep.

About this story

A homemade truck, a muddy track and one very big jump

The Backyard Rally is today, and every kid has a shiny truck except one. So the hero builds their own from a wagon, a laundry basket and a lot of tape, then takes it through the mud pit, over the ramps and up to the biggest jump of all.

The hero is drawn into all thirteen spreads, told at their reading level: 2–4, 4–6 or 6–8. Add a brother or sister, a pet to ride as co-pilot and the thing they love most, and each one has a part in the race.
